Home Care Tips

A clean, healthy, & bright smile...

Practicing good dental health

Dental health is an important part of overall health. Teeth and gums are important for chewing, talking, eating, smiling as well as appearance and self-esteem. Keep your mouth healthy by practicing good dental health habits.

Here are some helpful tips to keep teeth and gums healthy:

  1. 1Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Ideally, you should brush after each snack and/or meal. Replace your toothbrush every three or four months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.

  2. 2Dr. Rosenblitt is a strong believer in the use of a sonic power toothbrush such as Sonicare FlexCare; not only does it increase ones ability to clean their teeth but also decreases the occurrence of toothbrush related injury.

  3. 3For those patients that choose not to use a sonic toothbrush, use of a SOFT bristle toothbrush to avoid tooth damage.

  4. 4Clean between teeth daily with dental floss or an interdental cleaner. This helps remove decay-causing plaque and food particles between the teeth and under the gum line.

  5. 5Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks.

  6. 6No two patients are the same. For optimal oral hygiene, different people have different needs. Using Oral Irrigators and various types of flossing devices may be indicated for some patients. Dr. Rosenblitt and his staff will help you develop the appropriate at-home care program to meet your specific dental needs.

  7. 7Visit Dr. Rosenblitt at least every six months for professional cleanings and oral exams.

Antimicrobial and Fluoride Mouth-Rinses and Toothpastes
Antimicrobial mouth rinses and toothpastes reduce the bacterial count and significantly diminish plaque and gingivitis. Additionally, clinical studies confirm fluoride mouth rinses help decrease tooth decay beyond what fluoride toothpaste delivers alone. However, some rinses are not recommended for children age six or younger since they may swallow it. For best results, check the manufacturer's label for precautions and age recommendations, and contact Dr. Jon Rosenblitt to learn if these products are right for you.
